“My 40th Birthday was my worst day ever!”
Karen spent her 40th birthday in the emergency room with her worst migraine ever!
“It was debilitating. Before this, I had migraines around my menstrual cycle, but this was different.” After this nightmare event, Karen suffered 3-5 migraines EVERY WEEK! She went to doctor after doctor, tried everything from acupuncture to a nerve block in her head, even trying meds like liquid Morphine and Dilaudid (to which she became addicted). She had to take meds to get off the pain medicines, but those meds made her violently ill, so she went cold turkey! “That was such a difficult time and I spent a couple of weeks in a hotel working with a military doctor trying everything under the sun, including yoga and biofeedback and went through SO MUCH TESTING.” They ended up prescribing her Topamax pills with Botox injections and this combination of medicines finally eased her pain. However, they didn’t come without side effects, the worst being short-term memory issues and brain fog.
In 2020, however, the world shut down and her Botox injections were considered “cosmetic” and she wasn’t able to receive them. That month, she had 18 migraines. Her doctor put her on a “new” medicine that was an every-28-day injection called Aimovig. However, in 2022, she had to double the strength in order to keep getting the same results.
Fast forward to the Butler Home Show in March of 2024 where Karen met one of Family Chiropractic staff. She talked about her migraines, but wasn’t sure she wanted to try another chiropractor, as she had been going to one for years! She had an appointment with her neurologist shortly after that day and her neurologist told her to steer clear of chiropractic, that it wouldn’t help. This didn’t sit well with Karen and she decided to call and come in for a consultation and new patient exam. When she came back for her x-ray review, she received her first adjustment. “My husband and I had tickets to a show that night and I remember thinking that for the first time in many years, my neck didn’t hurt!” Karen had been living with this terrible neck pain for so long, she simply didn’t know what it was like to live without it.
Today, four months since walking through our doors, her life is completely different! She has not had one injection and has only had a few headaches. When asked what her favorite part of coming to Family Chiropractic is, she said, “Is it bad to say when I am leaving??? Only because I feel so much better afterwards!!” We are so happy that Karen has finally found relief…. And without the side effects of medication! She encourages EVERYONE to get their spine checked, because “why wouldn’t you???”
